When a storm comes through New Orleans, the damage is rarely obvious from the ground. Shingles lift and settle back down. Flashing pulls away at the chimney. A vent boot cracks. Nothing looks wrong until the next heavy rain finds the opening, and by then water has been in the deck for weeks.
Big Easy Roofing Company repairs storm, hurricane, wind and hail damage across New Orleans and the surrounding parishes. If water is coming in right now, we tarp and stabilize first, then assess properly once the roof is dry.
Hurricane damage. The most severe, and the most likely to involve an insurance claim. Wind uplift, missing sections, structural damage to the deck.
Wind damage. The most common and the most missed. Shingles lift, break their seal, and lie back down looking undamaged. The roof is now open.
Storm and rain damage. Water finding its way through flashing, valleys and penetrations that were already marginal before the storm.
Tornado and hail damage. Impact damage, bruising to the mat, and granule loss that shortens the life of the roof even where nothing has visibly broken.
Each of these has its own page with more detail on what to look for.
1. Document before you touch anything. Photograph and video the damage from the ground, and any water inside the property. Do this before any temporary repair, because the insurer will want to see the original state.
2. Call your insurer and open the claim. Do this early. Louisiana gives you one year from the date of the storm to file, not from the date you noticed the damage.
3. Get the roof tarped if it is open. Preventing further damage is your responsibility under most policies. We tarp across the New Orleans metro.
4. Get a documented inspection. Every slope photographed, every point of damage recorded, and a written scope of loss your adjuster can price against.
5. Be careful who you sign with. After every major storm, out-of-state crews arrive, take deposits and leave. Ask who will still be here in January.
We will not tell you your claim is guaranteed, and we cannot negotiate it on your behalf. That is a licensed activity in Louisiana and we are roofers.
What we can do is make sure your adjuster is looking at a complete picture. Most underpaid claims are underpaid because the damage was never fully documented, not because anyone acted in bad faith. We photograph the whole roof and write up the scope of loss, and we will meet your adjuster on site and walk it with them.
